One Year Ago Today

It happened so suddenly
One year ago today
The day you stepped into
Your car and drove away

Heading toward Virginia Beach
Your lover at your side
I marked it on the calendar
As the day our marriage died

You told people I was evil
And I treated you so mean
No one did believe you
With all the places you two were seen!

Now I ponder in sadness
A life that could have been
Of the once happy family
That we'll never be again

So ends this lonely ballad
Of a man that chose to stay
While his life was demolished
One year ago today
